Heroes’ Mile is committed to serving the rehabilitation and reentry needs of veterans who are facing problems with addiction and other psychological challenges related to military service. One-on-one counseling is offered as part of our therapy veteran programs, which include inpatient residential rehab, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and drug and alcohol detox.
Veteran-focused individual therapy provides tailored treatment for every client. During one-on-one sessions, a client and counselor work closely throughout the therapeutic process to develop and adjust treatment goals. Clients are free to discuss thoughts, feelings, experiences and any concerns related to wartime events and memories. Individuals receive a higher level of confidentiality during individual therapy than in group or family therapy. The pace of therapy also can be adjusted to the individual client’s needs.
Individual therapy sessions are at the core of our partial hospitalization and drug and alcohol detox programs. At Heroes’ Mile, veterans also can participate in the following programs and activities:
Veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), military sexual trauma (MST) and other psychological challenges often struggle to reconcile the horror of their combat or military experiences. An individual may continue to relive a traumatic incident, think negative thoughts and experience feelings of detachment, nightmares or problems concentrating.
Individual counseling allows veterans to explore their feelings, experience their painful emotional states and work through challenging or overwhelming memories. It is also used to identify aspects of their lives they would like to improve and help them work toward the desired change.
Working with a therapist one-on-one can help affected veterans relieve emotional pain, increase self-awareness, reestablish positive social relationships and enhance focus at work or school. The client and counselor are able to develop a therapeutic alliance that may not be possible in group or family therapy. Mental health and psychological issues that can be improved through therapy include:
